Spider

I did not make this spider on crack video and was not even aware of its existence until a visitor uploaded the video. Some think this is funny, some find no humor in it at all. A visitor expressed her feelings about giving a spider drugs in the video – but I can assure you that no spider ever behaves in the manner presented in this ‘spider on crack’ video and I highly doubt that they were given any such drugs.

Very poisonous spider!

6 years, 7 continents, 24 countries, 1 mega timelapse

Terra Sacra Time Lapses from Sean F. White on Vimeo . OVER SIX YEARS, Sean F. White traveled around the world, capturing timelapses of some of the most recognizable locations on the planet, including clips from 24 countries on all 7 continents. Many came from his work on the crew of Art Wolfe’s “Travels to the Edge” series: “I’ve combined my favourite shots from these trips into non-narrative film that touches on a theme close to my heart: Sacred Earth.” “My life as a filmmaker has blessed me with the privilege of seeing some of the most surreal and timeless places on the planet,” White says on the film’s Vimeo page.As part of the film crew, he enjoyed access to many places that ordinary travelers usually don’t get: Photographing such unique locations has left a deep impression and inspired White to propose an expansion of the project: I would love to revisit many of the locations in this film and other powerful sacred sites around the world to create a feature-leng

Terraced agriculture

AS THE TECHNOLOGY OF AGRICULTURE spread around the world c. 10,000 years ago, it was probably pretty simple to adopt in areas of flat land. For people living in mountains or hilly terrain, on the other hand, certain adaptations were necessary. Terracing is a type of landscaping whereby a natural slope is transformed into a stair-step of successively receding flat surfaces. This gives farmers multiple sections of arable land that: a) are more comfortable to work on, b) can be irrigated without excessive runoff, and c) are less susceptible to erosion. Terracing has been utilized in the production of various crops in different parts of the world for thousands of years. In South and East Asia, terraces predominantly serve as rice paddies. In the Mediterranean, grape vines and olive and other agricultural trees are grown. And in the  Andes , terraced slopes are planted with potatoes, maize, and quinoa. But beyond their primary function as agricultural tool, terraces possess an aesthet

Jupiter explosion sends astronomers scrambling

An amateur astronomer has sent the science world abuzz after he noticed an explosion on the surface of Jupiter. The bright flash observed on Monday has sent astronomers scrambling to figure out what caused it and whether the planet has been left scarred. United States amateur astronomer Dan Peterson noticed the explosion on Monday while observing Jupiter through a telescope, New Scientist reported. Peterson hadn't caught it on camera, so he sent a note detailing his observations, to other astronomers. Amateur astrophotographer George Hall had been filming Jupiter with a web camera and went back over his footage after receiving Peterson's note. "Had [Peterson] not recognised the event and issued the alert, I would never gone back and reviewed my videos in enough detail to see the impact," Hall told New Scientist. Hall had captured the explosion in a four-second  video . Astronomers said it was most likely caused by a comet or asteroid. While Jupiter i
